Two Thousand Ten!!!

Wow, we made it to 2010. It sounds like I'm living in the future. I'm glad to have made it this far, and this blog has only been around since about the beginning of 2009.

So in 2010 and beyond, there's much more planned for Julius the Mini, as well as the M3, the WRX, and maybe even Jen's 325.

Stay tuned, as this blog will change gears to encompass our cars, Team Pogi RC wheels, Restaurant hunting, house hunting, and the general everyday comedies and tragedies of life. Pretty much whatever amuses me from day to day, I'll post.

Oh, and before I forget, Jenny and I have been together for two years today! It's been a lot of fun, and time has gone by so fast since our first date in 2007. So here's to a great 2010 and beyond.

the forgotten blog

We've been so busy with facebooking and everything else that we haven't done any blogging in over a month!! Well, since Julius is up and running and no big plans are in the works for now other than maybe some new carpet and figuring out how to mount an electric fan instead of the big mechanical one, we can resume blogging about nonsense!

And now that cold weather and rain have come back to Los Angeles, we're back to our favorite activity: Finding new ramen houses and eating at them.

midnight pumpkin

Here's a quick picture of Julius at night. Looks SO cool!

Ignore the big ceiling light on the roof. I forgot it was there.

bust a cap

It's not too exciting, but here's a pic of the new radiator cap. The old one was too short to seal properly, and besides, it was OLD!

1st gear!

After taking apart the shifter assembly again, I found that I assembled one of the pieces wrong. Now we have all four gears and much better shifting. It's more of a proper "H" pattern than a lower case "k".

Lizzie wasn't as excited as I was.

julius: now with 5% more scirocco!

There was an old steering wheel out of a MK1 VW Scirocco in the garage and I noticed the rivets on the hub had the same oddball 7-bolt pattern as the mini. So I drilled out all of the rivets and bolted it right onto the old hub. It looks perfect and feels 100% better than that old busted, tiny go-kart steering wheel.

less noise, more fun

Minis aren't very quiet by nature, so I will be putting in some sound deadening on the floors and firewall to keep the ruckus down. Jenny shouldn't have to suffer in her dream car. ;)

I got some of the stuff they use in high-end stereo installations and have been doing a little at a time.

Here's the front floor area done:
